Our Catheter Care course equips support workers with the essential knowledge and skills needed to assist customers in managing their urinary elimination needs via catheters or external drainage devices.  Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the urinary system’s anatomy and physiology, including the roles of the kidneys, bladder, and urethra.  The course covers various types of urinary catheters, such as Foley catheters, intermittent catheters, and suprapubic catheters.  Proper catheter care and maintenance procedures will be practiced, focusing on cleaning, drainage bag management, and infection prevention.  The importance of maintaining a closed urinary drainage system will be emphasised.  Additionally, participants will learn to recognise and address common complications related to urinary catheterisation, including infection, blockage, and catheter-related trauma.  This comprehensive training ensures support workers are well-prepared to provide safe and effective catheter care.
