Pressure Wound Care

Course Overview

This Pressure Wound Care course is designed for healthcare professionals, caregivers, and support staff who provide care to clients at risk of developing pressure injuries.  The course aims to equip participants with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively care for clients with pressure wounds.

Course Highlights:

• Understanding Skin Anatomy: Gain insights into the structure and function of the skin, including the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous layers.  Understand how pressure injuries develop and the factors that contribute to their formation.
• Recognizing Pressure Injuries: Learn about different types of pressure injuries, including their anatomy, causes, and classifications.  Explore the concepts of pressure, shear, and friction, and how they affect skin integrity.
• Risk Assessment: Identify common locations for pressure injuries and understand who is most at risk.  Participants will learn the importance of skin and pressure assessment to monitor clients effectively.
• Observation Techniques: Understand the skin and pressure observation process, including the use of sample skin observation charts and how to document observation outcomes accurately.
• Preventive Measures: Discover strategies for reducing the risk of pressure injuries, including the use of pressure-relieving aids, appropriate repositioning techniques, and safe sitting practices.
• Support for Repositioning: Learn how to support clients in repositioning to prevent pressure injuries and maintain skin integrity, enhancing the quality of care provided.
• Assessment and Evaluation: Participants will complete an assessment to consolidate their learning and will engage in a review session to clarify key concepts and address any questions.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective care for clients with pressure wounds, promoting healing and preventing further injury.
