Course Overview

This specialised course, led by our Head Clinical Nurse Trainer, is designed for caregivers, nursing staff, support workers, and healthcare professionals who work with individuals affected by epilepsy.  The training equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage seizures, including the safe administration of Midazolam during emergencies.

Course Highlights:

  • Understanding Epilepsy: Gain a comprehensive overview of epilepsy, including its causes, different types of seizures, and the daily challenges faced by individuals living with the condition.
  • Seizure Classifications: Learn to identify and manage various seizure types, such as tonic-clonic, absence, atonic, myoclonic, and focal seizures, through detailed explanations and instructional videos.
  • Basic First Aid: Understand the principles of first aid during a seizure, with specific guidance for assisting individuals in wheelchairs.
  • Midazolam Administration: Learn when and how to administer Midazolam safely and effectively during seizure emergencies, with emphasis on medication side effects and emergency protocols.
  • Group Activities: Engage in hands-on activities to demonstrate your understanding of seizure management in real-world scenarios.
  • Legal and Ethical Considerations: Cover the legal and ethical aspects of administering emergency medications, ensuring participants are fully prepared for their responsibilities in practice.

The course includes interactive presentations, video demonstrations, group activities, and discussions, providing participants with practical skills and confidence in managing epilepsy and seizure episodes.  Additionally, the session explores lifestyle considerations and the importance of timely intervention during seizure emergencies.  Upon completion, participants will be fully equipped to respond to seizures, administer emergency medication, and enhance the overall safety and care of individuals with epilepsy.
