Course Overview

This Medication Management course, led by our Head Clinical Nurse Trainer,  is designed for healthcare professionals, caregivers, and support staff involved in administering or assisting with medications in various care environments, including hospitals, aged care facilities, and community services.  The course provides participants with the essential skills and knowledge to administer medications safely and in compliance with their organisation’s policies and procedures.

Course Highlights:

  • Roles and Responsibilities: Understand the responsibilities of those administering medication, along with an overview of the different types of medications and the “7 Rights” of medication administration.
  • Administering Medication: Learn proper techniques for administering various forms of medication, including liquids, eye and ear drops, patches, nebulisers, puffers, creams, and sprays, with practical demonstrations.
  • Safety and Compliance: Review key topics such as medication expiry dates, accurate labelling, proper use of PPE, and safe storage practices for medications, including Schedule 8 (S8) drugs.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Gain a thorough understanding of the importance of correct documentation, handling PRN (as-needed) medication, identifying drug interactions, and following procedures in case of adverse effects or emergencies.
  • Interactive Discussions and Practical Application:Engage in group discussions to share best practices for medication routines in real-world care settings.  Hands-on practice sessions will solidify understanding and build confidence in medication administration.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the confidence and competence to administer medications safely, handle medication schedules, and respond effectively in emergencies.  This training ensures a high standard of care and contributes to the well-being and safety of clients in their care.
